Clan Line News Update – 9 June 2012
We carried out a boiler washout on the Weekend of 26/27 May and the boiler was steamed over the next weekend, as is our normal practice. There was a minor delay to starting the washout as Mike Turner discovered a Blackbird fledgling was trapped in the pit beneath the BFK and would certainly have drowned once we started throwing water around. It was still being fed by its mother whilst down there. However, Mike eventually rescued it and placed safely at the other end of the shed.
Colin Clark and his partner Sandra spent a complete day last month cleaning the BFK compartment upholstery and an excellent job they have made of it too.
June Bank Holiday Weekend
While most of the country had a lie in and enjoyed the build-up to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, three intrepid (or mad) members were up at the lane preparing and putting Clan Line through her post washout steam test. During this the loco is checked over for any untoward leaks especially from either the washout plugs or the mudhole doors, as these had been opened up to allow the boiler to be washed out.
This, despite drizzly conditions, went according to plan; allowing her to be signed off ready for her next trip to Bath and Bristol on the 13th June.
