Currently the MNLPS has a healthy membership of over 450 with some 40 active working members and although this is good, we are always looking for more members to join us, especially those that are willing to keep Clan Line on the Main Line. Members receive the society journal "Southern Express", which is published three times a year and includes detailed information about the locomotive, together with many varied and interesting articles on railway related matters. In addition they receive advance notice of railtours to be hauled by Clan Line and details of the Society's social functions.
Our volunteers undertake a variety of tasks needed to keep Clan Line operating to the high standard main line that we strive to maintain. The activities we undertake range from engineering and electrical matters; machining components, fitting and assembling parts, working with the electrical system already on the engine and with the current railway network to implement the new electrical systems that are needed on Steam Locomotives to keep them on the ever changing main line. Perhaps you have painting or wood working skills that you feel would be beneficial to the Society. Other tasks our volunteers undertake that are equally as important are the day to day jobs of cleaning and ashing out No.35028. As a working member we have a programme to develop your knowledge and skills which relate to our locomotive and the wider railway network. You may want to get even more involved and become a member of the working party that goes out with the locomotive on trips and prepares the engine before for the run. You may be less into the practical side and more into the technical side which is also very beneficial to us, it can be safely said that “no matter what your talents maybe, the MNLPS can put them to good use.”
If you would like to attend Stewarts Lane, where Clan Line is based, and become more involved you will find a large friendly team with a wide variety of people from all different backgrounds and a good atmosphere.
