Saturday 10th February saw Clan Line hauling the King Alfred for UK Railtours.
We left London Victoria on time, but, after also picking up passengers at Clapham Junction, we were two minutes late. We made good progress until reaching Barnes, but we then had to follow a stopping service as far as Feltham. After that, though, we enjoyed some good running to Woking, and then on to Basingstoke. Then, we had to follow another service, until we got a clear road from Worting Junction. The run to Eastleigh was very good, and then we took the Portsmouth line to Hedge End, where we took water and pulled coal forward.
We had a pathing stop at Cosham Junction, before making our way to Havant. The ensuing climb and fast running brought us to Haslemere four minutes early. Here, we loaded coal and took more water.
We left Haslemere one minute late, and the tight timings, including a twenty mph restriction at Witley, meant that we got to Shalford Junction four minutes late. We then made good progress, and, despite another speed restriction at Worplesdon, we were only two minutes late at Woking.
After Addlestone Junction, there was a series of signal checks to keep our speed down, and we were still two minutes late at Clapham Junction. We finally arrived at Victoria almost on time, though.
After saying "Goodbye" to our happy customers, our day wasn't quite over, and we didn't get back into the shed until about six thirty to dispose the engine.
